Blade Runner 2049

“I had your job. I was good at it.”

Rick Deckard

I wasn’t super excited for this film as it was coming out, but I still wanted to see it because I worked at a movie theater and didn’t have to pay for it, but I was mildly interested. This beautifully shot, purely story-driven film blew me away with the visual effects and cinematography that it had to offer, as well as another stunning soundtrack that I would say is even better than the amazing soundtrack the first one produced. This movie captured the very atmosphere that made the original Blade Runner so unique visually and audibly.

This movie takes place 30 years after the events of the first Blade Runner, and makes for an amazing sequel as well as it’s own stand alone movie. I also liked that it really makes you think the whole 3 hours of the films run time, most movies just spoon-feed you everything now. It required a re-watch for me to fully “get” some of the things that were going on, I appreciate it more and more with each viewing.

Those of you that know me, you’ll probably know that I don’t like it when they include nudity in films, so my only negative takeaway from this film was that it did include nudity and one of the nudity scenes was fairly long, I looked away for them like usual but I still find it annoying when it’s included. It is also a very (very) slow burning movie, so if you’re not into that style of storytelling this movie might not be for you. Besides that this movie was amazing and if you’re up for a movie that feels like a week-long journey with a beautiful ending, I highly recommend this one. If you do plan on watching this movie, make sure you crank up the volume. 9/10
