Captain Marvel

“Space invasion, big car chase… truth be told, I was ready to hang it up. ‘Till I met you today.”

Nick Fury

The latest installment in the MCU and the final stepping stone before we enter the Endgame, Carol Danvers is Captain Marvel, but she doesn’t quite know who she really is.

I’ve always admired Marvel Studios for having such a wide range of genres within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from war and action with Iron Man, to small scale heist with Ant Man (Pun was fully intended), and now with a buddy cop-type film with Captain Marvel and Nick Fury.

I really enjoyed starting the movie knowing almost as much about the character and she did herself, so as she learned and tried to figure things out, I was right along side her the entire way. Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson bounced off each other really well and added some great humor to this movie, as well as delivered on the action.

Not a whole lot of negative to say about this one other than it gets fairly slow at parts. It starts off action packed and ends action packed, but the entire sandwich of the middle kind of drags a little. I never felt like I was trying to force myself through any of it, it was a good ride with some fun twists, but I would compare it to Thor (2011) in terms of pacing. My other negative takeaway is the problem that all prequels have in an established franchise, it brings up plot holes such as Nick Fury in The Avengers (2012) mentioning that when Thor appeared in New Mexico it changed everything because they realized they weren’t alone. Captain Marvel takes place in the early 1990’s so Nick Fury would have known about aliens and other worlds over 20 years before Thor ever showed up. But that’s just me being nit picky.

Overall, I’m gonna give Captain Marvel a 6/10. It was still very enjoyable, I didn’t have a problem with Brie Larson’s acting like a lot of people seem like they have, but it wasn’t the greatest film in the MCU either. I’d probably put it somewhere in the upper portion of the lower half of the MCU if I laid them all out. I also recommend seeing this if you are planning on watching Avengers: Endgame when it comes out.

If you saw Captain Marvel, what did you think?
