How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

“It’s you and me bud. Always.”

Dreamworks for me personally has always been very hit or miss, but three hits in a row with the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. This review will be a little shorter because I’m writing the review fairly late, but I’ll do my best, so here we go.

The Hidden World embarks us on the final arc of the journey started by Hiccup and Toothless back in 2010, and now both who have been heavily relying on each other since must learn to “fly on your own” as the film’s tagline states. Hiccup who is now chief of Berk has to put all his leaderships skills to the test when Berk is invaded by a new enemy with an army of dragons. I don’t want to get too deep into the story because there’s several surprises along the way.

Visual effects were gorgeous, with lots of colors and textures throughout the entire film, and the cinematography wasn’t as great as the second installment, it was still very well done. Soundtrack was memorable and moving at times, as John Powell returns for the third time in the franchise.

The only thing I didn’t really love about this movie was the villain, I felt he was fairly generic but he was fairly intimidating at times as far as animated villain’s go. Besides that, the third act was very well done and moving, but I don’t want to get too much into that due to spoilers.

Overall, I’m going to give the Hidden World a solid 8/10, and I’ll for sure be completing my collection when the blu ray drops. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments!
